While I have known for some time that Ukraine's boys of "Intelligent Rock" Flit will be performing at Pyvna Botchka out on Moskovskiy Prospekt, near Petrivka metro station. The gig is to start at 21:00.
Everything is constantly in flux, from the music we listen to, to the politics and society around us. uaMuzik is a reflection on Ukrainian music, politics, society, the food I create and technologies.

The Flit Gig - Great but not safe
In North America or probably anywhere else where the "Rule of Law" is followed there would have been at least one hundred and fifty fewer people than the three hundred and twenty who paid for tickets, plus the thirty or so who were in on invites. Before the gig even began a friend of mine said, "If there is ever a fire in this place, we are going to die!" Thank God nothing of that nature happened or I would not be writing this right now, but she was absolutely right.
While the gig was full of energy, and great the new Pyvna Bochka on Bohdana Kmelnytskoho could have turned into a tragedy. Why? If anything happened, like a fire for example, with as many people that were in the place, lack of clearly marked exits, and not to mention the imbibing of beer, people could have been crushed to death in their efforts of trying to get out. Thank God that that didn't happen!
One of the problem with Kyiv is the lack of venues that can accommodate between four hundred and a thousand people comfortably. The clubs for example that do exist do little to think of the safety of their clientèle and simply are too small. For the music industry to develop in a healthy manner in Ukraine, not only do Ukrainian content laws need to be developed and adhered to, but there is clearly a need for safe venues that will allow Ukraine's young talents to perform before their public.

Flit - Upcoming Concert
According to Flit's manager Prokhor, Flit will performing at Pyvna Bochka 3B/1 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho in Kyiv on Saturday January 20. The show starts at 21:00 and admission is 20 UAH.
As you may recall from a previous post, their earlier performance had to be rescheduled due to incomplete renovations to the new Pyvna Bochka location.

Flit - To perform this Friday in Kyiv
Flit [pronounced fleet] will be performing at the opening of a new Pyvna Bochka located at 3 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho, in the center of Kyiv.
The four guys who make up the group hail from Ivano-Frankivsk and have developed a pretty good following from the University crowd. Their first album Svit takyj blends sounds of Offspring with some traditional Ukrainian melos. I know these guys personally and seen them perform a number of times and they are quite the crowd pleaser. Last summer a friend of mine's son was in Kyiv, I dragged him out to the show with one of the other Canadian students here at the time. He really enjoyed the show, and if I'm not mistaken he has an autographed poster hanging up somewhere at home.
I recall attending their re-release of their first album under the UkrMusic label, and when asked what kind of music they play the answer was ecological rock. In fact many of their songs have an ecological twist to them, but their anthem has become the song Izhachok, which means hedgehog. The song is about a little hedgehog who meets at terrible fate on when he is hit by a car, but none the less the song is pretty positive as part of the refrain goes:
Ale vin pertvorytsja v zirku
I lapkamy ves' svit obiyme
Ne chipayte yoho ne treba
Khaj vin syly u sobi znajde.
Their second album Zanykaj released last spring is somewhat different in style, and includes a couple of songs that I really enjoy, in particular Moja planeta, Ne my, and Kolyskova. Most songs on the album also includes a comical introduction. I think I will definitely be hitting the show come this Friday night.
